ChemInform Abstract

The water-soluble cobalt-substituted polyoxotungstate effectively catalyzes the epoxidation of carbamazepine (I) and stilbenes (III) and (VI) by potassium monopersulfate. The yields of the oxide products are high at ph5. Interestingly, in the epoxidation reaction of cis-stilbene (III), cis-stilbene oxide (IV) is obtained as a major product with trace amounts of trans-stilbene oxide (V) and benzaldehyde formation, indicating the absence of radical type of oxidation reactions. Trans-Stilbene (VI) provides only trans-stilbene oxide (V) together with a trace amount of benzaldehyde.
