ChemInform Abstract

A short synthesis of substituted quinoxalinoporphyrazines, a new class of photosensitizers is reported. Key step in the preparation of (IV) is the condensation of the 1,2-diones (II) with diaminocyanobenzene (I) followed by a base-induced cyclotetramerization of the intermediate quinoxalines to the porphyrazine framework. The intense absorptions in the near infrared and the photooxidizing properties of (IV) make them promising candidates as agents active in photodynamic therapy.
