ChemInform Abstract

Reaction of the title sulfoxides (I) with S4N4 provides a mixture of thiatriazine 1-oxides (II), 1-aminothiatriazine 1-oxides (IV) and thiadiazole derivatives (III). The structure of compounds (II) is elucidated on the basis of an X-ray study of derivative (IIb). The reaction mechanism is discussed in detail. Treatment of thiatriazine oxides (II) with MCPBA does not afford the corresponding dioxides (VII). Instead, a recyclization takes place to furnish symmetrical triaryltriazines (VI) with incorporation of the m-chlorobenzoyl residue from MCPBA.
