ChemInform Abstract

Ni(NH3)X2 (X: Cl, Br) are prepared from Ni(NH3)2X2 and NiX2 (steel autoclave, 350 °C, 1 week). The isotypic compounds crystallize in the monoclinic space group I2/m with Z = 8 (synchrotron X-ray powder diffraction). The crystal structure contains polymeric octahedra double chains 1 [NiX3/3X2/2(NH3)] running along the short b-axis. The NiX5NH3 octahedra share common edges therein.
