ChemInform Abstract

A novel asymmetric cyclization of ω-formyldienes is described, involving the Ni(0)-catalyzed reaction of these dienes (I), (V), or (VIII) with silanes in the presence of a chiral phospholane ligand. Mixtures of 1- and 2-propenyl-substituted derivatives of various cyclopentanes, cyclohexanes, as well as pyrroles are obtained. It is shown that the ratio of internal to external alkene and the optical purity of each derivative depends on the silane as well as on the solvent employed.
