ChemInform Abstract
The synthesis of a novel class of dithienylethenes (V), in which the two thiophene rings are locked in an antiparallel orientation by the rigid dodecahydrophenanthrene backbone, is presented. It is shown that compounds (V) undergo the expected ring closure upon irradiation at 310 nm to furnish isomers (VI), which are reopened to compounds (V) at 450 nm.
