ChemInform Abstract

The asymmetric synthesis of (S)-massoialactone (VI), the enantiomer of naturally occurring allomone (-)-massoialactone, includes Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation of heptene (I) and regiospecific nucleophilic opening of a cyclic sulfate [in situ generated by oxidation of cyclic sulfite (III)] as key steps.
