ChemInform Abstract

Several functional groups and C—C double bonds remain intact during the reduction of a variety of aldehydes and ketones with polymethylhydrosiloxane in the presence of catalytic amounts of P(NMe2CH2CH2)3N. Although the phosphorous compound acts catalytically in these reductions, it is actually a promoter inasmuch as it is hydrolyzed during the aqueous work-up that liberates the alcohol from the silyl ether.
