ChemInform Abstract

The title compound is prepared as minor product besides Ag2S by solvothermal reaction of (NH4)2MoS4, RbI, AgI, and sulfur in ethylenediamine (autoclave, 393 K, 7 d; ≈10% yield). Rb2MoS4 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma with Z = 4 (β-K2SO4 type). The structure contains MoS42- tetrahedra which are connected by the Rb+ cations.
