The title reaction of various aldehydes like (Va)—(Ve) with amine (I) mainly gives the corresponding Z-amides (VIIa)—(VIIe) in good to excellent yields. Ketones, e. g. (Vf) and (VIII), also react with amine (I) to give the appropriate unsaturated amides (VIIf) and (IX).
