ChemInform Abstract

The title compound with n ≈ 4.4 is prepared from Ba(NO3)2 solution in an autoclave containing a V metal anode and a gold foil used as cathode. Single crystal XRD shows a tetragonal structure (space group P42/m, Z = 4) in which [V7O16] double layers are stacked along the [001] unit cell direction with Ba2+ ions and H2O molecules located between the layers. Vanadium ions are present in both distorted octahedral and tetrahedral coordination environments. The Ba2+ occupy two different interlayer positions.
