The hitherto unknown title dihydropyridine-2-thiolate (V) is prepared by three-component cyclocondensation of β-diketone (I), aldehyde (II) and cyanothioacetamide (III), and used for the preparation of a number of methylthio derivatives (X), the corresponding 2-thione (VI) or the thieno[2,3-b]pyridine (VIII).
