ChemInform Abstract

The kinetics of formation of the isolated (BO-2) anion inside the sodalite matrix during the thermal dehydration of Na8(AlSiO4)6(B(OH)4) 2 is studied as a function of heating time and temperature. The decomposition reaction of (B(OH)-4) in the β-cage of the sodalite, prepared from kaolinite and sodium perborate in 4M NaOH under hydrothermal conditions, is investigated by powder XRD, IR, and 11B, 23Na, and 29Si MAS NMR methods. The sodalite aluminosilicate framework is shown to be a favored host matrix to obtain the highly isolated BO- 2 anion.
