Novel bromo- and iodo-substituted benzoxazepinediones (IV) (9 examples) are obtained as by-products in the etherification reaction of halogenated salicylamides (I) with 2-bromo esters (II). They can also be prepared in high yields by hydrolysis of esters (III) and subsequent cyclodehydratation. The new compounds are evaluated for their biological activity.
