ChemInform Abstract

Reaction of 2-aminotetrahydroquinoline-3-carboxylate (I) with hydrazine hydrate gives the corresponding hydrazide (II) which easily undergoes acylation at the hydrazyl nitrogen. In contrast, reaction of 2-acetylaminotetrahydroquinolinecarboxylate (VIII) with hydrazine results in a cyclization producing the pyrimido(4,5-b)quinoline derivative (IX). The presence of the free 3-amino group is evidenced by formation of the N-benzylidene derivative (XI).
