ChemInform Abstract
The reaction of chloromethyl methyl sulfide (I) with methyl triflate results in the first synthesis of α-chlorine-substituted sulfonium salt (III). The ylide generated thereof reacts with various ketones and MeOH in the presence of methylate to yield dimethylacetals of 2-hydroxyaldehydes.
