ChemInform Abstract

Blue-violet single crystals of Na0.5K6.5(MoVI8VIV4O36(VVO4)(VIVO)2). times.12.5H2O (I) are prepared in 46% yield by heating a solution of VOCl2, Na2MoO4×2H2O, and KCl in water (pH 6.2) for 6 d at 45-50 . degree.C in Ar atmosphere. The structure of (I) (tetragonal, I4/m, Z = 4), as determined by single-crystal XRD methods, is built-up from chains of “trans-vanadium” capped α-Keggin type (MoVI8VIV4O36( VVO4)(VIVO)2) units. In the “layered” type structure, formed by the different metal atoms, three layers are spanned by one V5 set and two ( Mo4) type sets. The increased nucleophilicity of (I) results from replacement of metal centers with high oxidation state (MoVI) by those with lower one (VIV).
