ChemInform Abstract

Heat treatment at 1600 °C in a Cr2O3 atmosphere induces migration of anorthite liquid films between polycrystalline liquid- phase sintered (98)alumina-(2)anorthite plates diffusion bonded to three different single-crystalline alumina surfaces. The intergranular liquid films migrate to grains with surface orientation corresponding to higher coherency strain energy. The experimental results agree with the prediction based on the coherency strain theory. Differences to previous experimental results are discussed.
