ChemInform Abstract

Novel imidazole-oxadiazole ring interconversions accompanying the nucleophilic amination of 2-methyl-4-nitroimidazoles (I) by 4- aminotriazole (II) or hydroxylamine are described. Imidazole- oxadiazole transformations fail to appear by reacting 4- nitroimidazoles lacking the 2-methyl substituent (cf. (VI)). Mechanistic suggestions are discussed.
