ChemInform Abstract
The title hydrazino- and azinohetarenes (V) and (X), resp., are synthesized by reaction of the versatile synthon (I) with thiosemicarbazides (II) or (VIII) in acetone and subsequent oxidation of the dihydroxyphenyl compounds (IV) and (IX). Hydrolysis of (IV) and (IX) with HCl yields the iminothiazoline hydrochlorides (VI) and (XI), resp., which are oxidized under the same conditions as their precursors affording the benzoquinolyl substituted thiadiazines (VII) and (XII), respectively. Some aspects of the mechanism of the reactions are discussed.
