ChemInform Abstract

A new method for the synthesis of 2-amino-1-arylideneaminoimidazoles ( III) (12 examples) via alkali-mediated condensation of α- haloketones with guanylhydrazones (II) is given. The obtained imidazoles react with α-haloketones to furnish the title imidazoimidazoles (cf. (V), (VI)) or their open-chain precursors (cf. ( VII)) depending on the reaction conditions.
