ChemInform Abstract

A new type of reaction between diarylformamidines and acetone in the presence of a Lewis or Broensted acid entails the cleavage of a C-N- bond of the formamidine. Subsequent incorporation of two carbon atoms of acetone leads to the vinamidinium species (III).
