ChemInform Abstract

Single phase samples of the title solid solution with 0.0 ≤ x . ltoreq. 1.0 are prepared by solid state reaction at 1050 °C in air and characterized by powder XRD. The samples with x ≤ 0.7 adopt a cubic perovskite-type structure while those with x ranging from 0.8 to 1.0 crystallize with a tetragonally distorted (NH4)3FeF6- type structure. The tetragonality (c/a) increases with increasing La3+ content. This suggests an alternating arrangement of the CuO6 and TaO6 octahedra. Due to the valence state of Cu of almost +2 in all samples, the CuO6 octahedra in these compounds are distorted according to the Jahn-Teller effect of Cu2+.
