ChemInform Abstract

Replacement of the electon-withdrawing substituents in (Ia), (IIa), and (IIb), which exhibit relatively high hyperpolarizability β values at short absorption wavelengths, by electron releasing substituents, e.g. (Ib) and (IIc), results in a drop of hyperpolarizability.
