ChemInform Abstract

An agglomerated alumina powder of < 53 μm particle size suitable for sinter forging to dense, shaped ceramic compacts, are prepared by seeding of a dried boehmite gel with 1.5 wt.% α-Al2O3 of ≅ 0.1 μm size. By this method highly transparent optical ceramics can be prepared at lower temp. than by conventional routes.
