ChemInform Abstract

A facile five-step synthesis of the naturally occurring marine alkaloid niphatesine D (S)-(VII), starting from the readily available enantiomerically pure acetoxyalkylthiophene (I), is described. In an analogous manner the unnatural R-enantiomer of (VII) is prepared starting from (R)-(I).
