ChemInform Abstract

The aminocyclitol derivative (XII) of the title alkaloid is synthesized in a stereoselective way starting from the known disulfone (I). The key step in this convenient approach is the addition of methyllithium to (VI) under cleavage of the oxygen bridge leading to the sulfone (VIII).
