ChemInform Abstract

Reaction of the title benzoxazine (I) with the aromatic amines (II) and (VI) provides products resulting from an unusual CO-O-bond cleavage in (I). Reactions of (I) with Schiff bases (→ (IX)) and azines (→ (XI)) involve a cleavage of the reagents into their amine and arylidene moieties, which are smoothly incorporated into (I) via nucleophilic attack of the amine at position 4 and condensation of the aldehyde with the reactive methyl group at position 2, respectively.
