ChemInform Abstract

A series of AlPON catalysts with P/Al ratio 1 and variable nitrogen content is prepared by nitridation of amorphous AlPO4(AlPO) by flowing ammonia and characterized by XPS and Fourier-transform diffuse reflectance IR (DRIFT) spectroscopy. In the AlPON framework N is preferentially bonded to P. Residual adsorbed NH+ 4 ions are used to evaluate the Broensted acidity and malonitrile-benzaldehyde condensation is employed to test the basicity of the catalyst. The AlPON catalysts exhibit reduced Broensted acidity and an increase of the overall surface basicity.
