ChemInform Abstract
The high temp. conductivities of sodium β′′-alumina (NaBASE) and potassium β′′-alumina solid electrolyte (KBASE) ceramics in low pressure Na vapor and low pressure K vapor, resp., are measured in a four-probe configuration by ac and dc techniques using Rh/W film on NaBASE and sputtered Mo films on KBASE as electrodes. Alkali vapor pressures from 0.1 to 3.0 Pa and ac signal amplitudes from 2 to 25 mV are applied. During the first 100 h conductivities dropped slightly for NaBASE ceramics and ≅30% for KBASE ceramics followed by stability over 1550 h at 1130 K for NaBASE and a slight increase 495 h at 1200 K for KBASE ceramics.
