ChemInform Abstract

Several electron-rich alkenes such as the vinyl ether (II), the enols derived from the ketones (V) or the enamines (VIII) react with the anilides (I) and (VII) or the amide (X) in the presence of POCl3 to give the corresponding quinolinium salts. Further conversions lead to quinolones (XII) or to dihydrofurano-, dihydrothieno-, and pyrroloquinolinium salts such as (XIII), (XV), and (XVI).
