ChemInform Abstract
The hydration enthalpies, δHh, for Na-, Ag-, Mg-, and Ca- exchanged zeolite A and some natural zeolites dehydrated in the temp. range 40-50 °C are measured and the total heat of hydration, Q = -δHhδmh, where δmh is the amount of water hydrated per kilogram of zeolite, is used to evaluate the zeolites as heat exchange absorbents for solar-powered systems. Mg-exchanged zeolite A dehydrated at 100 °C, which is close to the operating temp. of solar systems exhibits the highest Q value of 531 kJkg-1. This value is twice that of natural mordenite or clinoptilolite.
