ChemInform Abstract

The melting and resolidification characteristics of the title 123/Ag composites are studied as a function of Ag content and oxygen pressure. The melting and solidification temp. of YBa2Cu3O7-x (123) in melt growth processing of the composite is lowered by Ag over an oxygen pressure range of 152 to 2 torr. However, with decreasing oxygen pressure the melting temp. of the 123 phase decreases while that of the excess Ag in the composite increases which is due to a different solidification sequence of 123 and Ag leading to variations in the Ag morphology and distribution in the melt-grown composites.
