The title oxidation is applicated to several homoallylic steroidal alcohols such as (I), which are transformed to the corresponding 3,6- diones (II) in 4 days. This prolonged oxidation does not give the expected cholest-5-en-3one (III), which is formed after 1 h as the main product.
