ChemInform Abstract

The reactions of 3-4 equivalents of heterocyclic aryllithium compounds with POCl3, SOCl2 or PCl3 give the symmetrical biaryls (II), (IV), ( VIII) or (XI) in good yields. With PCl3 the formation of by-products such as the phosphines (V) and (IX) or the terpyridine (VI) is observed.
