Treatment of title oxides like (II) with organo-lithium compounds leads to sulfoxides of type (IV) and (VI) with fair to high yields. However, with Grignard reagents only low yields are obtained. In addition, it is shown that the sulfoxides can also be prepared by oxidation of the corresponding sulfides.
