Potassium fluoride on alumina efficiently promotes the epoxidation of . alpha.,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds shown by tBuOOH. Functional groups which are labile to aqueous basic conditions survive. No reaction is observed in the case of testosterone, methyl cinnamate, ketones (IX)/(X) and lactone (XI).
