Starting from sulfoxides such as (I), (V) and (VI) the title reaction is performed with good stereoselectivity leading to the α- silyloxy sulfides such as (III), (IV) and (VII). Chiral α- silyloxy sulfides such as (VII) are obtained if nonracemic starting material such as (VI) is used. It is noteworthy that the corresponding enantiomers of (VII) are obtained in higher yields and with better e.e. -values compared with an older approach reported. Some mechanistical aspects of this reaction are discussed.
