ChemInform Abstract

The mechanism of solid state reaction of SrHPO4, SrCO3, SrCl2×6 H2O and optionally H3BO3 is investigated by DTA. In the presence of H3BO3 solid state reaction takes place in the temp. range 680 to 725 . degree.C yielding Sr5(PO4)3Cl, which crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P63/m, and Sr2B5O9Cl as a second phase. As shown by XRD analysis, no pentastrontium chloride borate phosphate is formed. The lattice parameters of the samples prepared with or without H3BO3 are equal and show only small differences in the atomic coordinates. Eu2+ doped Sr5(PO4)3Cl can be used as blue component in three band fluorescent lamps.
