ChemInform Abstract

Monoaryl halides bearing electron-withdrawing substituents are used as educts (17 examples) to give biaryls in good to excellent yields in the reaction with phenol (II). The yields of ter- and quateraryls are low (up to 40%). Elimintion of the tBu groups in the products can readily be achieved with TfOH or AlCl3 according to B).
