Macrolide rings present in biologically active polyolefins such as the amphidinolides are obtained by intramolecular Stille cyclization. The amounts of the additionally formed Z-product (III) and the isomer (IV) are independent from the double bond configuration of the starting material as demonstrated with the Z-isomer of (Ib), (V).
