In dependence on the electronic properties (hardness) of the central metal, the initially formed photoproducts (III) and (V) undergo further photoreaction in the presence of the cyclodisilabutane (I) to give either the dimer (IV) or only the oxidative addition product (VI). However, the Mo analogue affords both the dimer (IV) and the Mo analogue of (VI).
