A facile synthesis of the title epoxide (IX) starts from cis-butene-1, 4-diol (I). Sharpless asym. epoxidation of isomerized 3-butene-1,2- diol derivative (III) under kinetic resolution conditions and the introduction of azido-group under Mitsunobu conditions are the key steps of short sequence.
