ChemInform Abstract

Single crystals of the title compounds are prepared by reaction of 1,1: 1.0 molar mixtures of MAlO2 and M2O (M: K, Rb) at 550 and 520 ° C, respectively. Structure determination by the four-circle diffractometer confirms the monoclinic space group C2/m, Z = 2 for the earlier described K6(Al2O6). The new compound Rb6(Al2O6) crystallizes in the same space group. Both compounds are isotypic to the corresponding gallates M6(Ga2O6) and ferrates M6(Fe2O6). The structure is characterized by two distorted (AlO4) tetrahedra sharing one common edge. Calculations of ECoN, MEFIR, MAPLE and CHARDI are discussed.
