ChemInform Abstract

The isocyanates (I) react with biacetyl (II) to give the dimethyleneoxazolidinones (III). These, e.g. (IIIa), undergo Diels- Alder cycloaddition reaction with N-phenylmaleimide (IV) to yield the corresponding adducts, e.g. (V). In the absence of dienophiles, four different dimers (VI) - (IX) and the cyclobutene (X) are obtained upon heating of (IIIa).
