ChemInform Abstract

In view of the fact that heterocyclic compounds containing a trifluoromethyl group are of interest due to their excellent pharmacological activity, the syntheses of a variety of title compounds are reported. The preparation of (V) is also achieved when using the corresponding ketoanilide instead of (IV). In contrast to the 5-methyl analogue, (Ia) and aromatic aldehydes such as (X) fail to give any characterizable products under the usual conditions. In an attempt to synthesize the 4-arylidene derivatives the reactions with the aldehyde are carried out under different conditions.
