ChemInform Abstract

The N-protected 3-acetylpyrroles (I) are converted to the carboxaldehydes (II) which are subsequently coupled with the Grignard reagent (III) and then oxidized to yield the ketones (IV). (IVa) is treated with carbanions of organo-metallic compounds as (V) to produce the corresponding carbinols (VI). Acid-mediated cyclization of (VI) leads to the formation of the indole derivatives (VII) mentioned in the title.
