ChemInform Abstract

The synthesis of the olivin precursor (VIII) starts with the Horner- Wadsworth-Emmons coupling of the phosphonate (I) with the aldehyde (II) which is followed by diastereoselective vinylcuprate addition to the enone (III). Final condensation reaction of the isocoumarin (VI) with lithiated methyl acetate (VII) yields the target compound (VIII).
