The 7,7′-cyclolignan (III) and the 7′,8-cyclo-7,8′-neolignan (IV) are prepared by the same reaction sequence (yields not given). Both the compounds are of interest because they are similar to the natural product heterotropan but with different pattern of substitution in the aryl group.
