ChemInform Abstract

Key step in Friedel-Crafts reactions is the interaction of carbenium ions with arenes. With para-substituted benzhydryl salts it is possible to determine the rate constants and activation parameters of their reactions with arenes. With the known values for the reactions with alkenes it is possible directly to compare the nucleophilicities of aromatic and aliphatic systems.
